As July winds down and we feel that subtle shift in the air — just a whisper of cooler mornings and golden evenings — I always find myself pausing at the worktable, hands covered in bits of burlap and faux leaves, just taking it all in.
Summer isn’t quite over yet, but she’s definitely softening.
And as a wreath maker, this moment — this exact in-between — is one of my favourites.
Soaking Up the Last Blooms
There’s something poetic about late-summer florals. They carry this rich fullness — sunflowers heavy with warmth, dahlias showing off their final colours, hydrangeas quietly fading into muted, antique hues.
At The Crafting Table Wreaths, I love capturing that end-of-summer story in my designs. It’s not just about colour or trend. It’s about evoking that fleeting feeling: sun-soaked days turning into firefly-lit evenings, garden bounty turning into pie, and the hush before autumn truly arrives.
Right now, I’m working with florals that still whisper “summer” but gently nod toward the fall: golden wheat, burnt oranges, deep ferns, and warm neutrals that ease us into the next season without rushing it.
It’s the wreath equivalent of that first cardigan you throw over a sundress.
A Season That Teaches Slowness
Every time I start a new piece, especially this time of year, I’m reminded why I do this. Creating wreaths isn’t just arranging pretty things — it’s a quiet ritual. It slows me down, brings me back to center, and lets me reflect on what each season means not just outside, but inside.
Summer teaches me joy. Messy, barefoot, watermelon-on-the-patio kind of joy. But late summer? She teaches me grace. That things don’t last forever, and that’s what makes them beautiful.
That’s what I try to pour into every wreath I make this time of year — a little pause, a little beauty, and a whole lot of heart.
Celebrate the In-Between
If you’ve been feeling that same shift lately — that itch to refresh your space without fully committing to pumpkins and plaid — this is the perfect time to bring home a late-summer wreath.
Whether it’s for your front door, your kitchen window, or even above the fireplace, these pieces capture the last glow of the season while easing gently into fall. No rush. No pressure. Just beauty in the in-between.
Or if you’re in the Toronto area, feel free to contact me for a custom piece — I’d love to craft something just for your space.
